FIRST® LEGO® League Camps

As a partner with the FIRST® LEGO® League in South Dakota, SDRA also provides training camps for individual students, teams, coaches, judges, and referees. Visit our Adult Education for more information on our adult classes or becoming an FLL volunteer.

Our SDRA week-long summer camps for kids revolve around FLL as a whole. While NXT Robotics is an integral portion of FLL, the camps reflect what the whole season experience would be for a team. In our "mini-season," students complete robotics challenge missions, work on a science project which tackles a real-world problem from the challenge theme, and practice teamwork and Gracious Professionalism™.

Our beginner camps give students a taste of the FLL season. They partner with one other student for their robot work, and with a larger group for their project and teamwork, competing in a series of mini-challenges throughout the week in order to win the LEGO Cup for their group. We focus on the idea of completing challenges, some introductory programming for those who have never taken an SDRA programming class, simple teamwork activities, and the basics of a good research presentation. The beginner camps are perfect for anyone who hasn't participated in FLL before, even if they've had some programming experience in an SDRA class.

Our intermediate camp is for students who have taken the beginner camp or have participated in on an FLL team. Students need to be familiar with the basics of a good presentation, programming, and Gracious Professionalism™. We vary the activities for the intermediate camps each summer, so students can take it several years in a row. Intermediate level camps focus on getting students to use more creative robotics solutions and to discover a better style of presenting. These are skills that can and should be reinforced multiple times.
